WHO ARE WE?
Sefton Pensioners’ Advocacy Centre is an INDEPENDENT, FREE and CONFIDENTIAL Advocacy Service run for older people in Sefton.
Advocacy is an enabling process. It seeks to support people to make their needs known; to be involved in decision making and exercising choice. Through this, older people may exercise more control over their lives. Sefton Pensioners’ Advocacy Centre supports older people to be fully involved in all aspects of their lives. We work with salaried and volunteer advocates to do this. We challenge discrimination because of age, illness or disability.
WHO DO WE HELP?
We try to help any person 60 years old or over who may be isolated or vulnerable, finding it difficult to speak for themselves. They can be living at home, in residential/nursing care, in hospital or living with relatives. The service is provided throughout Sefton.
HOW DO WE HELP?
We provide a “one-to-one” partner to work as an advocate for any older person needing support in exercising his or her rights. We can provide support, friendship and information, often acting as an intermediary between an older person and service providers or other agencies.
Older people are supported while they make major decisions about their lives, ensuring they have all the information necessary to make their own informed choices.
We provide a wide range of advocacy services and have salaried specialist staff to assist with the following areas: Mental Health (Functional), Mental Health (Dementia), Housing, Nursing Fees/Care Homes, General Advocacy as well as 2 Volunteer co-ordinators who have up to 20 Volunteers working on advocacy cases. We also have a user involvement worker who organises and runs the Sefton Older Person’s Community Care Forum
